Call-2-Action: Sign petition to demand President Trump not pardon Joe Arpaio
GritoBlast! — The Department of Justice, Amnesty International, and the courts have all found former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio guilty of gross violations of human rights. For 24 years, and under the mask of attempting to crack down on undocumented immigrants, Arpaio terrorized thousands of Latinos, including tourists, legal residents, and U.S. citizens in Maricopa County, AZ.
On July 31st, Arpaio was found guilty of violating the constitutional rights of immigrants after he had been ordered to stop detaining, harassing, and racially profiling Latinos during patrols. He was sentenced to six months in jail.
Recently, President Trump has come out in defense of Arpaio, making claims of a potential presidential pardon, stating in an interview that Arpaio “doesn’t deserve to be treated this way”.
Since, Trump has scheduled a rally in Arizona on Tuesday, August 22nd, where it is believed he will announce his decision to pardon Arpaio. This would be Trump’s first presidential pardon, which will send a clear message to the nation on where he stands on racism and support of the greater Latino community.
To send President Trump a clear message of the displeasure of the Latino community at even the possibility of a pardon for Joe Arpaio, 70 Latino organizations have united in creating a petition to send to the White House.
